Laura Hout helps people struggling with Anxiety, Depression, Binge Eating Disorder (BED), emotional eating, food addiction, obesity, weight loss and maintenance. Often this involves overcoming a legacy of trauma and addiction in the family of origin - having struggled herself - Laura knows how behaviors that once soothed can become problems themselves.
Laura is a Certified Practitioner of TEAM-CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), developed by Dr. David Burns of Stanford University to help clients achieve faster results in fewer sessions. She has advanced training in Relational Life Therapy (RLT), as well as Mindfulness and Self-Compassion techniques.
Laura's clinical experience includes counseling individuals, couples and families in a variety of mental healthcare settings. She's worked at eating disorders centers, substance use treatment centers, and large mental health agencies, including CALM (Child Abuse Listening & Mediation). At CALM she was a member of the DBT consultation team and received ongoing training in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
In addition to a Master of Arts in Psychology, Laura holds a Master of Professional Writing (MPW) from the University of Southern California. Published widely, she currently writes for PsychAlive.org and serves on the Clinical Editorial Council of The Therapist, published by CAMFT.
